The legendary Volga brand returns—but now with Geely's DNA under the hood

The iconic Volga brand is making a comeback under new management. Production has already begun at a factory in Nizhny Novgorod, with the first cars set to arrive in summer 2026. The revived models, however, will no longer be linked to their original manufacturer, GAZ.

The new Volgas are instead being built by a different company, using designs closely tied to existing Geely vehicles. The revived Volga lineup includes three models: the C50, K40, and K50. Official documents confirm their foundations—both the C50 and K40 are based on the Geely Atlas, while the K50 mirrors the Geely Monjaro. These connections extend beyond engineering; the certification paperwork for the new Volgas directly references Geely’s Atlas, Preface, and Monjaro models.

Production preparations have finished, and the first units have rolled off the assembly line. The cars are being manufactured by the Joint-Stock Company PLA (Passazhirskie Legkovye Avtomobili), not GAZ, which previously built Volgas for decades. Sales will also follow a new path, handled by LLC DLA (Distributor Legkovykh Avtomobilei) rather than GAZ or the original Volga brand.

Dealership plans are already underway. The first sales offers have been sent to a holding company with experience in distributing Geely vehicles. Potential dealers have also been given an early look at the models, ahead of the official 2026 launch. The relaunched Volgas mark a clear break from their past. GAZ plays no role in their production or distribution, and the cars themselves share platforms with Geely’s lineup. With assembly complete and dealer networks forming, the first deliveries are expected by next summer.
