S&P SmallCap 600 reshuffles with Peloton and Universal Technical Institute joining

Changes are coming to the S&P SmallCap 600 index at the end of May. Two companies will leave the benchmark, while two new ones will take their place. The updates reflect recent mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring in the market. On May 27, 2026, Universal Technical Institute Inc. (NYSE: UTI) will replace Veris Residential Inc. (NYSE: VRE). This follows an agreement for Affinius Capital and Vista Hill Partners to acquire Veris Residential. The deal is nearing completion, with only final closing conditions remaining.

Peloton Interactive Inc. (NASD: PTON) will also join the index, taking the spot of Enviri Corp. (NYSE: NVRI). Enviri is preparing to spin off certain operations and assets into a new publicly traded company later this month. After the spin-off, Veolia Environment SA will acquire the remaining parent entity of Enviri.

The new company created by Enviri’s spin-off will not meet the criteria for inclusion in the small-cap index. As a result, Peloton will fill the vacancy left by Enviri’s departure from the S&P SmallCap 600. The index adjustments will take effect before trading begins on May 27. Universal Technical Institute and Peloton will become part of the S&P SmallCap 600, replacing Veris Residential and Enviri. The changes come as both outgoing companies undergo significant ownership and structural transformations.
