Mumbai's SevenHills Hospital to get a Rs 400-crore super-specialty revival after 20 years

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is close to finalising a deal for the redevelopment of SevenHills Hospital in Andheri East. The long-stalled project, launched in 2004, will now be transformed into a modern 1,500-bed super-specialty facility after years of financial and operational struggles. The SevenHills Hospital project began two decades ago under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. It was designed as a 1,300-bed multi-specialty hospital, with 20% of beds reserved for BMC patients. However, the facility never became fully operational, leaving unpaid dues and undelivered services for civic patients.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital briefly served as a dedicated COVID treatment centre. After multiple companies showed interest, the BMC selected a private investment firm with experience in non-banking financial services. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has since approved the proposal, paving the way for a final agreement between the BMC and Capri Global. The chosen firm has pledged to invest Rs 400 crore over the next five years. It will also clear outstanding dues of Rs 183.51 crore owed to the civic body. Once redeveloped, the hospital will allocate around 300 beds for BMC patients, ensuring better access to healthcare services.

The redevelopment will turn SevenHills into a fully functional 1,500-bed super-specialty hospital. The BMC’s agreement with the private firm will resolve long-standing financial issues and expand medical services. The project is expected to improve healthcare infrastructure in Mumbai once completed.
