Man from Rhineland-Palatinate loses 800,000 euros through fraud with cryptocurrencies - Worms Man Loses €800K in a Highly Organized Crypto Scam
A man from Worms has lost around €800,000 in a cryptocurrency investment scam. The fraud began in late August 2024 when unknown criminals first contacted him by phone and messaging apps. Police are now urging victims to come forward with any information.
The scam unfolded over several months, starting with unsolicited calls and messages. The perpetrators, described as highly professional, convinced the victim to invest in crypto by promising large profits from exchange rate movements. Instead of delivering returns, they repeatedly demanded extra payments for supposed taxes and fees.
At some point, the criminals gained remote access to the victim’s computer and online banking. This allowed them to manipulate transactions and drain funds directly. By the time the fraud was discovered, the total loss had reached approximately €800,000. Authorities have classified the case as a sophisticated operation. The identities of those responsible remain unknown, though investigators believe they operated with careful planning. Police in Worms have asked anyone with relevant details to contact them via phone at 06241 852-0 or email at KIWorms(at)polizei.rlp.de.
The financial damage from this crypto scam is estimated at €800,000. Police continue to investigate but have yet to identify the criminals. Victims or witnesses are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to assist the ongoing inquiry.
