Weil, Gotshal & Manges Strengthens Private Equity Team with Key Partner Hire

Weil, Gotshal & Manges has bolstered its private equity team with the addition of Rex Hupy as a partner in its New York office. This marks the ninth partner hire for the firm's private equity group in 2025. Leaders at the firm have welcomed his arrival, citing his extensive experience in high-profile transactions.

Rex Hupy officially joined Weil, Gotshal & Manges on December 22, 2025, after spending four years as a corporate partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. His expertise spans multiple industries, including energy, infrastructure, consumer products, and technology. At Kirkland, he advised leading private equity sponsors on complex deals.

Barry Wolf, the firm's executive partner, expressed satisfaction with the appointment, stating it would enhance the firm's private equity platform. Christopher Machera, co-head of the US private equity group, highlighted Hupy's global perspective and strong industry relationships as key assets. Michael J. Aiello, chairman of the corporate department, also praised his ability to handle sophisticated transactions. The hire is part of Weil's ongoing expansion in private equity, reinforcing its position in the market.

Hupy's appointment brings the total number of partner additions to the firm's private equity group to nine in 2025. His arrival is expected to strengthen the firm's capabilities in advising on major transactions across sectors. The firm continues to grow its practice with experienced professionals from top-tier competitors.
