In the heart of Deux-Sèvres, France, a small village named Chicheville lies crumbling, abandoned. But hope is on the horizon as Tony and Terry, a couple from Gloucester, have taken it upon themselves to restore this historic hamlet.

Tony and Terry purchased Chicheville for approximately £51,000 and have been working tirelessly to bring it back to life. The main cottage, once the heart of the village and home to farmers, is being renovated by the couple.

The cost of living crisis and the need to sell their UK home have put a strain on their finances, but Tony and Terry remain determined to complete the restoration. They have only been able to afford basic repairs so far, but they are waiting for an influx of cash before they can continue with the renovation.

Tony and Terry believe there is a lot of family history in the village, and it would be a shame to see it go. They are committed to preserving the village's history and preventing it from becoming abandoned.

The couple prefers traditional methods when restoring houses, as opposed to modern ones. They have created an 'oasis' in the main cottage, with a cosy sitting room featuring comfortable sofas and warm rugs, which will be used as a cocktail lounge. Terry plans to keep many original features of the homes during the renovation, including a terracotta pot built into the walls.

Off-street parking and a new kitchen can add significant value to a property, potentially increasing its price by up to £50,000 and 15%, respectively. The loft conversion, another value-adding feature, can increase a property's value by 15%. Tony and Terry are confident that their efforts will not only preserve the village's history but also increase its value.

Terry was immediately attracted to the village when she saw it advertised online, and Tony expressed the importance of rescuing houses before they disappear, referring to the rest of the hamlet. The village consists of three cottages, a pig sty, a barn, and a small wood.

Tony and Terry's hard work is evident, and they remain optimistic about the future of Chicheville. Despite the challenges, they are determined to complete the restoration and create a thriving community once again.
