Turkey-South Korea Partnership Marks 70 Years of Cooperation

The journey began in 1950 when Turkey sent over 21,000 troops to support South Korea, becoming the fourth-largest contributor to the UN forces. In 2020, South Korea's Ministry of Education launched the 'Learn a Strategic Foreign Language' initiative. Initially focusing on Turkish, it now includes languages like Persian and Ukrainian. The interest in learning Turkish has grown significantly over the past five years, with registrations rising from 627 in the first year to over 6,300 by 2025.

President Lee Jae Myung, elected in 2025, reaffirmed the historic bond established during the Korean War and committed to continued bilateral development.
The U.N. Memorial Cemetery in Busan stands as a testament to Turkey's role in the Korean War, with 462 Turkish servicemen resting there. Today, Turkey and South Korea's relationship spans political, economic, and cultural dimensions. With growing interest in learning Turkish and expanding cooperation, their partnership continues to evolve and strengthen.
