New Senior Co-living Community to Launch in 2026 on Sylt - Sylt's First Senior Co-Living Community Set to Open in 2026

A new co-living community for seniors, offering unique living spaces, is set to open on Sylt in 2026. The community, located behind a dune and about 100 meters from the beach promenade in Westerland, will provide a unique living experience for those aged 60 and above.

The 'Living Together and Living' association is behind this innovative project. They will rent the apartments and sublet them to residents, providing a monthly warm rent of 500 euros per senior, which includes all ancillary costs. Each senior will have their own 23 square meter room with a private bathroom, while shared spaces such as a kitchen, common living area, outdoor space, balcony, and rooftop terrace with a sea view will encourage a sense of community.

The complex will also house a senior day care center, further enhancing the support system for its residents. This new community is designed to accommodate eleven seniors who are looking for planning security, perhaps due to losing their company apartments upon retirement or during notice periods.

While there is no specific information about a similar project in Northern Germany, the Sylt co-living community aims to provide a modern and supportive living environment for seniors. Despite the initial challenge of adjusting to communal living, the community offers a unique blend of independence and companionship, with strict eligibility criteria ensuring a suitable environment for all residents.
