Sulfuric acid leak at Texas plant sends 40 to medical care

A sulfuric acid leak at an industrial plant in Channelview caused disruption early Saturday morning. The incident led to multiple hospitalisations and on-site treatments for respiratory problems. The leak happened at the Intercontinental Terminals Company (ITC) Deer Park/Channelview terminal on Jacintoport Boulevard. It began after a catwalk collapsed at the facility. Emergency services responded quickly but did not issue a shelter-in-place order. Instead, they contained ships docked at the nearby San Jacinto Port as a precaution. Two individuals were taken to hospital with breathing difficulties. A further 38 people received treatment for respiratory issues at the scene. The incident caused temporary restrictions at the port and required medical attention for 40 people. Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the catwalk collapse or the full extent of the leak.
