Spacecoin Makes History With First Blockchain Transaction Through Space
Spacecoin has made history by relaying a blockchain transaction entirely through space. The company demonstrated this at TOKEN2049, sending a transaction from Chile to Portugal using a nanosatellite. This method could provide a backup route for remote communities and disaster zones with unreliable internet.
The test used a nanosatellite supplied by GomSpace and EnduroSat, covering roughly 7,000 kilometers. The transaction was processed on the Creditcoin test network, proving that signature data and transaction integrity survive the trip through spaceborne links. While launching and operating satellites has high costs, Spacecoin plans to add three more satellites in a CTC-1 cluster by Q4 2025 to increase coverage and allow inter-satellite handoffs. This could make satellite-based routing a viable alternative to slow, vulnerable radio links.
Spacecoin's successful demonstration of blockchain transaction relay through space opens up new possibilities for remote and disaster-stricken areas. However, the high costs of satellite launching and operation must be addressed for widespread adoption. The company's plans to expand its satellite network in the coming years suggest a commitment to making this technology more accessible.
