Rapid advancement signifies the new phase in the development story of Riviera Nayarit, as spearheaded by Nauka and Siari.

Puerto Vallarta serves as the home base for Meagan Drillinger, a New York native who has spent the past 15 years traveling and writing about Mexico. In her latest article, Drillinger introduces us to Nauka, a new development opening on Riviera Nayarit's northern coastline.

Nauka is a members-only residential community, spanning across 800 acres and divided into four distinct landscapes: jungle, cliffs, mangrove estuaries, and oceanfront. Within Nauka, there is a separate entity named Siari, which is a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Siari operates independently from Nauka but shares the same land.

Siari offers dedicated restaurants, wellness offerings, and cultural programming for its guests. It boasts 87 rooms and 34 branded residences. The membership for Nauka will remain capped at 400, and beyond the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, no further hotels are planned for the property. Rentals within Nauka are restricted to members and their guests.

The tension between growth and conservation is not easily resolved, as 800 acres of formerly untouched coastline are now earmarked for golf courses, marinas, and residences. However, Mexico has a legal and regulatory framework that supports the sustainable development of master-planned communities. The General Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection Law (LGEEPA) is the central piece of environmental law, ensuring that new developments, such as Nauka, meet stringent criteria for protecting the natural environment to obtain permits.

Nauka and Siari are expected to fully open this December, with a deep-water marina providing 250 boat slips expected to open next year. The new partnership between UNESCO and SECTUR, one of the seven participating states in this partnership, was established to bolster public policy on sustainable, cultural, and community-based tourism.

Publicly available information does not clearly identify the founder of Life Properties involved in the Nauka project. For updates on Drillinger's journey through Mexico, follow her on Instagram at @drillinjourneys or through her blog at drillinjourneys.com.
