Planned New Construction on Rudower Straße: Barrier-Free Living and Social Infrastructure

A new social housing project is set to transform Rudower Straße 184 in Berlin’s Neukölln district. Developer DEGEWO will construct 86 barrier-free apartments across two buildings, designed to support diverse groups. The scheme also includes daycare centres, senior living, and sustainable features as part of its community-focused plan.

The development will consist of two five-story buildings, each serving different needs. Building 1 will offer 64 one- and two-room apartments for seniors, complete with assisted living services. It will also house a senior day-care centre, run by LebensRaumHeute GmbH.

Building 2 will provide 22 subsidized rental apartments for households eligible for housing vouchers. Additionally, a daycare centre for families, operated by Familya gGmbH, will be located there. The project will also repurpose two existing buildings on the site, converting them into regular rental housing after their use as temporary refugee accommodations. Sustainability plays a key role in the design. New trees will be planted, and rainwater will be reused for irrigation. Outdoor spaces will include play and exercise areas for all ages, alongside bicycle parking to encourage eco-friendly transport. Construction is scheduled to start in November 2025, with completion expected by summer 2027.

Once finished, the Rudower Straße 184 development will add much-needed social housing and community facilities to Neukölln. The mix of senior living, subsidised apartments, and childcare services aims to create an inclusive environment. Sustainable features and barrier-free design will further support the needs of residents and the wider neighbourhood.
