Peter Thiel dumps Tesla and Nvidia stock for Apple and Microsoft

Billionaire investor Peter Thiel made major changes to his portfolio in the third quarter. He sold off large stakes in Tesla and Nvidia while buying shares in Apple and Microsoft. The moves have drawn attention due to the timing and scale of the transactions.

Thiel’s fund sold nearly 208,000 Tesla shares, worth around $72 million, during Q3. At the same time, he completely exited his Nvidia position, offloading 538,000 shares for approximately $94 million. Reports suggest he believed the AI-driven surge in Nvidia’s stock had peaked and saw little further upside.

With the proceeds, he purchased 79,000 Apple shares and 49,000 Microsoft shares. The Apple investment cost roughly $18 billion, while the Microsoft stake came to about $25 billion. The shift from Nvidia to Apple has raised eyebrows, given Nvidia’s rapid growth and stronger revenue forecasts compared to Apple.

Thiel’s decision to reduce Tesla holdings and invest in Microsoft appears less controversial. After the sales, his fund now holds a substantial cash reserve, as the total from Tesla and Nvidia sales exceeds the combined cost of the new Apple and Microsoft positions.

The transactions leave Thiel with significant liquidity and a reshaped tech portfolio. His exit from Nvidia, despite its strong performance, signals a strategic bet on other major players. The full impact of these moves will depend on how Apple and Microsoft perform in the coming quarters.
