Peine’s empty spaces transform into cultural hubs through bold city revival
The city of Peine is breathing new life into its center with the Stadtimpuls network, established in 2024 to promote collaboration and innovation. Peine Marketing and the city's economic development team are revitalizing the area by transforming vacant buildings into vibrant hubs for art, culture, and social interaction.
Kathrin Bolte, Project Manager at Peine Marketing, is leading the charge. She coordinates requests and maintains the digital settlement tool LeAn®, which allows property owners to register vacant spaces and potential tenants to connect. The next phase involves engaging property owners and businesses in dialogue.
The city center is already seeing changes. The Soziale Kaufhaus Peine opened temporarily in the City Galerie during the Food Truck Festival. Young people have also transformed an empty space into an open studio, led by the Servicestelle Kultur and junge VHS. Artists from KiP – Kunst im Peiner Land have showcased their work in vacant storefronts.
