National Assembly Eases Transition for Military School Graduates to NDA
The National Assembly is set to ease the transition of graduates from Military-Focused Schools into the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA). A bill to amend the NDA Act has passed its second reading, aiming to integrate students from the four military schools into the academy.
The four military-focused schools - Nigeria Military School Zaria, Air Force Military School, Military School Jos, and Navy Military School Ikot-Ituen - provide both academic and military training. Graduates become proficient in arms and martial arts, making them well-prepared for military careers.
The bill seeks to capitalise on the basic military skills these students have already acquired. It aims to enhance the combat strength of the armed forces by encouraging these students to pursue military careers at the NDA. A lawmaker noted that providing a seamless transition path would be beneficial for both the students and the armed forces.
The Chairman of Parents and Instructors' Association, NMS, has urged the government to expand budgetary provisions for military training to accommodate more cadets and bolster the manpower needs of the armed forces. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has also expressed the Nigerian Army's commitment to building a well-educated and professionally competent army through strategic investment in education, including the integration of military school graduates into the NDA.
