Maharashtra renames Pune cow research centre after Ajitdada Pawar
Maharashtra’s Indigenous Cow Research and Training Centre in Pune will now bear the name of late Deputy Chief Minister Ajitdada Pawar. The state government approved the renaming to honour his contributions to cattle conservation and agricultural research. Officials believe the new title will strengthen the centre’s mission and identity. The centre was first set up to focus on scientific conservation, research, and improvement of native cow breeds. Its work includes preserving rare indigenous varieties and increasing milk productivity. Farmers also receive guidance on sustainable agriculture techniques from the facility.
The decision to rename it the *Ajitdada Pawar Indigenous Cow Research and Training Centre* was made under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar. The move aligns with Ajitdada Pawar’s original vision, which emphasised innovative research and the protection of India’s traditional cattle breeds. Authorities expect the new name to enhance recognition and support for the centre’s activities. These include training programmes, genetic research, and efforts to revive declining native breeds.
