Lower Saxony pumps €500M into crumbling roads and bridges

Lower Saxony has announced a major investment in its road and bridge network. The state will allocate an extra €500 million over the coming years to improve transport infrastructure. A new agreement, signed on 18 November 2025, sets out fresh standards for how these projects will be delivered—focusing on teamwork, digital solutions, and sustainability.

The Charta für Infrastruktur was formally signed last week, marking a shift in how road and bridge construction will be managed. Economic and Transport Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne stressed the need for better coordination, open communication, and clear processes in all projects. He highlighted that these improvements would support the economy, future transport needs, and quality of life across both cities and rural areas.

The €500 million funding boost will support a wide range of road and bridge upgrades across Lower Saxony. With the new charter in place, construction projects are expected to run more smoothly, using digital tools and stronger partnerships. The changes are designed to create lasting improvements for transport, the economy, and daily life in the region.
