How PRAGATI Transformed India’s Power Projects in a Decade

India’s PRAGATI platform has driven major progress in infrastructure and governance since its launch in 2015. Created under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the initiative aims to cut bureaucratic delays, improve coordination between ministries and states, and ensure projects meet deadlines with measurable results. By the end of 2025, it had already commissioned 43 power projects worth over Rs 3 lakh crore.

The Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) platform was introduced to fast-track critical power projects and social schemes. It focuses on real-time monitoring and accountability, pushing agencies to complete work on schedule. Since its start, the platform has reviewed and commissioned 237 power projects alone, with a combined value of Rs 10.53 lakh crore.

As of December 2025, ten power projects worth Rs 1,10,467 crore remain under construction. Another 108 power projects, valued at around Rs 6 lakh crore, are also being tracked. Among the key players, Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) leads with 20 commissioned power projects, while NTPC follows with 14.

Five major firms—PGICL, NTPC, NHPC, THDC, and Sterlite—currently have two power projects each in progress. NHPC, NEEPC, THDC, and Sterlite have each completed two power projects, alongside a transmission project in Uttar Pradesh.

PRAGATI has reshaped how large-scale power projects are managed in India. With 43 power projects already completed and over Rs 3 lakh crore invested, the platform continues to push for efficiency. The ongoing work, including 108 power projects, reflects its role in maintaining momentum across key sectors.
