Ghana’s Military Housing Crisis Nears Solution With 5,000 New Homes
The Government of Ghana is addressing long-standing accommodation shortages in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) through a major housing initiative. A partnership between Sinoam Fund and Eli Ghana Limited will finance and construct 5,008 new housing units across seven military barracks. The project marks a key step in improving living conditions for service personnel.
The collaboration involves Sinoam Fund and Eli Ghana Limited, with an initial investment of around $50 million. Eli Ghana will oversee construction alongside the financiers, working directly with the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces. Brigadier-General Benjamin Amoa-Boateng, speaking for the Defence Minister, welcomed the investors’ visit as progress toward solving the military’s housing crisis.
Construction is set to start in the coming months, once final agreements and project timelines are confirmed. The development will include two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, addressing critical shortages in military accommodation. Beyond housing, the investors are also examining opportunities in energy, logistics, and social infrastructure, such as education and healthcare.
The project aligns with wider government efforts to upgrade military infrastructure. Full details of the partnership will be released after formal discussions conclude.
The housing scheme will deliver over 5,000 new homes for military personnel across Ghana. With financing secured and construction plans underway, the initiative aims to ease accommodation pressures within the Armed Forces. The government’s broader strategy includes further infrastructure upgrades to support service members.
