Mallard duck trapped under trampoline - Fine - German Woman Fined €6,000 for Keeping a Wild Duck in Horrific Conditions

A woman from Upper Bavaria has been fined €6,000 for illegally keeping a wild mallard drake in poor conditions. The bird was found living under a trampoline in her garden on Lake Chiemsee island. Authorities intervened after discovering the animal was visibly unwell and unable to survive in the wild.

The resident, from the Chiemsee municipality in the Rosenheim district, had kept the male mallard for over a year. An inspection by experts from the local veterinary office revealed the bird was suffering due to inadequate care. The drake was immediately taken to a veterinarian for assessment.

Mallards are protected as game birds in Germany, meaning they can only be kept legally with a valid hunting licence. The woman lacked the necessary authorisation, violating animal welfare laws, hunting regulations, and nature conservation rules. As a result, the bird had to be euthanised because its condition made survival in the wild impossible. The court issued a penalty order of 60 daily rates, totalling €6,000. The case highlights the strict enforcement of wildlife protection laws in the country.

The fine serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for keeping wild animals without permission. The mallard’s condition led to its euthanasia, ending a prolonged period of suffering. Authorities continue to monitor compliance with wildlife and animal welfare regulations.
