Investor to Acquire Fabergé Estate but Must Restore It by 2029
Fabergé's 'Little Hermitage' Estate Heads to Auction in St. Petersburg
DOM.RF has put the Fabergé dacha in St. Petersburg up for sale, with a starting price of 46.88 million rubles. The auction is scheduled for June 19, and bids from potential participants will be accepted until June 15.
The lot includes buildings with a total area of nearly 3,000 square meters, as well as the leasehold rights to a 7.95-hectare plot. The property is offered for commercial use but comes with a set of mandatory conditions for the future owner.
The key requirement is the obligation to carry out restoration work and preserve the landmark. According to the terms, conservation efforts for this cultural heritage site must be completed by February 2029. The investor will also have access to preferential financing mechanisms available for such projects.
Known as the "Little Hermitage," the Fabergé dacha once belonged to the famous jeweler family and earned its name from the rich art collection assembled by Agathon Fabergé. Originally designed in the style of an English cottage by architect Karl Schmidt, the building took on Art Nouveau features after its 1908 reconstruction.
Inside, it once featured winter gardens, a marble staircase, fireplaces, tiled stoves, and halls decorated in various historical styles. The interiors were adorned with carpets, porcelain, bronze, engravings, and decorative items from Europe and Asia.
After the 1919 revolution, the estate was nationalized and looted. Throughout the 20th century, it housed sanatoriums, rest homes, and children's camps, leading to significant alterations to its layout and the loss of much of its historic décor. Today, the property is in poor condition and requires full restoration.
