€1.8 Million Revives Rural Lower Saxony with New Community Hubs

Six rural projects in Lower Saxony will receive a total of €1.8 million in funding. Minister Miriam Staudte announced the grants on Wednesday at the historic Old Maritime School in Gründeich. The money will help restore and repurpose key community buildings across the region.

The funding covers a range of village development initiatives. In Gnarrenburg, a listed building will be transformed into a new community centre. Nearby, an old farm building in the Auetal area will become a café and gathering space for locals.

In Egestorf, a playground will be upgraded to improve facilities for families. Meanwhile, Nottensdorf will convert a disused school into a *Dörphuus*—a traditional village hall for events and meetings. Evendorf’s marksmen’s hall is also set for renovation, ensuring it remains a social hub. Finally, Estebrügge will redesign its cemetery to better serve the community. The grants come from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection. Officials presented the funding agreements during a ceremony at the Old Maritime School in Gründeich, Stade district.

The projects aim to boost rural living standards and bring residents together. Work on the community centres, playground, and other sites will begin in the coming months. Each initiative was selected to strengthen local ties and preserve shared spaces for future generations.
