Deep Dive into the Komodo's Vibrant World: Wide-Angle Shots

In the latest installment of the series, we delve into the mesmerizing underwater world of Komodo, Indonesia. This captivating destination, home to a unique blend of pristine and devastated coral reefs, serves as the backdrop for the video series "Rolling in the Deep".

The series, created to showcase marine life in various destinations without narration or a story, was realised in Komodo due to its rich marine biodiversity and unique underwater landscapes. The photographer behind the lens remains unspecified, but the stunning footage speaks for itself.

At the heart of this project are Dustin and his wife Tyra, contributors to www.oceanshutter.com. To follow their adventures, head over to their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/oceanshutter.

Dustin, a self-taught filmmaker, has been diving for 18 years and has been capturing the beauty of the underwater world on film for the last three. For this series, he chose to use the Canon 5d Mark II paired with a Canon 15mm fisheye lens. Despite the distortion this lens brings, its sharpness made it the preferred choice.

Shooting wide-angle underwater can be challenging due to the lack of sunlight and stability. However, Dustin opted for natural light over artificial lights, adding a raw, authentic feel to the footage. White Balance adjustments were made frequently during the shoot to ensure accurate colours.

The video from Komodo is a testament to the diversity of coral reefs, which cover a mere 0.01% of the world's oceans yet contain up to 25% of all marine species. One of the highlights of the footage is the graceful appearance of Manta Rays.

For those interested in underwater photography gear, the Underwater Photography Guide can be supported by purchasing through Bluewater Photo & Video. Bluewater Photo & Video can also provide expert advice, and for those looking to dive in Komodo, Bluewater Travel offers information on booking a trip.

In a special event, a guided trip to Komodo in March 2015 will have special guests onboard - Aggressor owners Wayne Brown and Wayne Hasson.

Dustin's underwater videos can be found on www.oceanshutter.com, and for further reading, tips for shooting underwater video, editing tips, and an ultimate guide to Manta Rays are all available online.

It's clear that Dustin's passion for the underwater world shines through in his work, and his commitment to capturing its beauty is evident in every frame. Whether you're a seasoned diver or simply an admirer of the ocean, the "Rolling in the Deep" series offers a captivating glimpse into the wonders that lie beneath the waves.
