CM Devendra Fadnavis Woos Purandar Farmers With Top Compensation, Jobs & Land For Airport; Eyes 2% Pune GDP Surge
The Purandar airport project in Maharashtra is set to become the first in the state to offer both financial compensation and alternative land to affected farmers. Alongside job priority for their children, the initiative aims to balance development with rehabilitation for local communities. The airport is also expected to boost the region’s economy by 2%.
The proposed airport will serve as both a passenger and cargo hub, improving trade for perishable goods. To address concerns of displaced families, rehabilitation plans will keep family units intact and provide extra space for adult children. A skill development centre will also be established to train local youth.
The government has pledged the highest possible compensation for acquired land. Additionally, affected farmers may become project stakeholders through a new state-run corporation. Transferable development rights (TDR) benefits will be extended under the Purandar aerocity scheme. Legal cases from past protests against the project will be withdrawn. As a cultural tribute, a grand statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj will be installed within the airport premises.
The project combines economic growth with social support, offering jobs, training, and fair compensation. With legal disputes resolved and family needs addressed, the airport aims to set a new standard for infrastructure development in the state. The cargo and passenger facilities are expected to strengthen regional trade and connectivity.
