Business owners and car enthusiasts celebrate Churapchi veterans on their Victory Day
In the heart of Siberia, a significant chapter of Yakutia's history is being brought to light, as entrepreneurs and volunteers come together to honour the sacrifices made during the Churapchinsky resettlement.
From the 1940s to the 1940s, thousands of people were relocated to the harsh northern conditions of Yakutia, a move that is often overlooked during Victory Day celebrations. The pre-war population level was not reached again until 1985, a stark reminder of the catastrophic consequences of this resettlement.
The volunteer movement of "Fiziatriya" auto-ladies has been at the forefront of this commemoration, supporting the delivery of gifts to the veterans for two days. Joining them were entrepreneurs such as Georgii Karamzin ("Utum Invest+"), IP Ivan Danilov, IP Uliana Megina, IP Andrei Aulov, IP Leonid Solovev, IP Natalia Selesneva ("Gourmet"), IP Sargylana Sivtseva, and IP Yana Limareva (store "LED"). Five women from the "Fiziatriya" movement participated in the delivery: Lyutsiya Gorokhova, Sargylana Zholoban, Nyurguiya Androsova, Olga Vasilyeva, and Sardana Gotovtseva.
The entrepreneurs and activists of the Yakut branch of the public organization "OPORA RUSSIA" have launched a public initiative to address this gap. They repeated the action in 2021, delivering food packages to war veterans from Churapchinsky District in Yakutsk, who were relocated to the Arctic regions of Yakutia and worked in fish collective farms.
The granddaughter of one of the resettlers, Evdokiya Zakharova, expressed special thanks to the Yakut "oporians" for their efforts. The event was also reported by Yevdokiya Zakharova herself, the daughter of a settler.
Out of the 41 collective farms organized in Churapchinsky District, only 15 remained. The resettlement led to a dramatic decrease in the population, with numbers falling from 16,964 in 1943 to 7,939. By January 1, 1947, out of 4,988 settlers, 1,108 had returned to their native places.
Im E.N. Andreyev, the captain of the "Fiziatriya" NPO team, mentioned that they always respond to such requests because they believe the elderly need help. This act of remembrance and support is a testament to the resilience and community spirit of Yakutia.
As we commemorate the heroes of the past, it is essential to remember and honour those who endured the harsh conditions of the Churapchinsky resettlement. Their stories serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made for the sake of peace and the importance of supporting our elderly population today.
