BMW Appoints Mexican National Carlos Gamboa as New Head of San Luis Potosi Plant

BMW has appointed a new head for its San Luis Potosi plant, with Mexican national Carlos Gamboa taking over from Siegfried Jung. Gamboa brings extensive experience in logistics and supply chain management, having played a key role in the establishment of the plant and the introduction of advanced digital technologies.

Gamboa began his career at BMW in the Americas, focusing on supplier development. He later joined the team that evaluated and decided on the location of the San Luis Potosi plant. This marks his return to the plant, where he previously served as director of materials and transport control. Gamboa is now the first Mexican to lead production and logistics at the plant.

The appointment comes as BMW invests in digital technology for logistics flexibility. The company has implemented AI, machine learning, and data analytics to improve efficiency. The San Luis Potosi plant, which features a single control center overseeing all operations, will produce Neue Klasse electric vehicles from 2027. An 85,000 sq.m battery assembly facility is currently under construction.

Gamboa's appointment signals BMW's commitment to local talent and digital innovation. His experience in logistics and plant management will be crucial as the plant prepares to produce electric vehicles. The company continues to invest in technology and infrastructure to ensure flexibility and efficiency in its operations.
