Berlin’s Helmhouse Redefines Urban Living with 21 Luxury Apartments in Prenzlauer Berg
A striking new residential building, the Helmhouse, has opened in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg. The project fills a long-empty space in the historic Helmholtz Kiez, adding 21 high-end apartments to one of the city’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. Designed to blend with the area’s classic Wilhelminian-style streets, it also introduces modern, sustainable living to the district.
The Helmhouse stands as a seven-storey timber high-rise, reaching 77 metres in height. Developed and built by Helm AG, construction began in 2023 and is set for completion in 2026. Its design, led by Tchoban Voss Architekten, reimagines the traditional Berlin block layout while creating a sheltered inner courtyard with landscaped green space for residents.
Inside, the building offers a mix of apartment types, from compact units to family-sized homes. Penthouses feature private terraces, and ground-floor apartments include direct garden access. Some units are barrier-free, ensuring accessibility for all residents. Sustainability plays a key role in the project. The Helmhouse meets strict energy-efficiency standards and includes eco-friendly features like bicycle storage and electric vehicle charging points in the basement. Its location on Senefelderstraße places residents within easy reach of public transport, local shops, daycare centres, and parks. The building’s height and scale mirror the surrounding architecture, completing the streetscape while introducing a contemporary touch. Helm AG aimed to create a structure that respects the neighbourhood’s character while offering modern urban living.
The Helmhouse now stands as a landmark in Prenzlauer Berg, combining historic influences with forward-thinking design. Its 21 apartments, communal green areas, and sustainable features cater to a range of lifestyles. The project marks a significant addition to one of Berlin’s most vibrant residential districts.
