Berlin’s Glider Quarter to transform Johannisthal with 540 new homes by 2030

Berlin’s Johannisthal district is preparing for a major transformation with the Glider Quarter development. By 2030, the area will offer around 540 new apartments, with at least 440 of them publicly subsidised. The project aims to create a vibrant neighbourhood blending housing, jobs, and social facilities.

The Glider Quarter sits on land with a rich past. As early as 1909, the site hosted pioneering motorised flight experiments before later shifting to industrial use. Now, it is set to become one of Berlin’s largest urban development projects.

The Glider Quarter will provide affordable housing alongside community amenities and job opportunities. With construction beginning in 2026, the project is on track to reshape Johannisthal into a well-connected, mixed-use district by the end of the decade.
