Berlin’s AEG site to become Humboldthain Quarter by 2030

Berlin’s historic AEG industrial site in Gesundbrunnen is set for a major transformation. A new urban district, named Humboldthain Quarter, will replace the old factory grounds after demolition begins in late 2025. The project, designed by Cobe Architects and David Chipperfield Architects, has already secured key approvals and sustainability recognition.

The 6.5-hectare site was once home to the AEG factory, a cornerstone of Germany’s electrical engineering industry from 1894 to 1984. Now, it will become one of Berlin’s largest commercial redevelopments within the S-Bahn ring. The zoning plan received full legal clearance from the Mitte district, paving the way for construction to start by late 2025.

The redevelopment will turn a historic industrial area into a dynamic urban hub. With demolition set for late 2025 and completion due by 2030, the Humboldthain Quarter aims to combine innovation, culture, and sustainability. The project’s scale and design reflect Berlin’s push for forward-thinking city planning.
