Bengaluru's Infrastructure Woes: Shaw, Shivakumar Meet to Plan City's Future

Bengaluru's infrastructure woes took centre stage as Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met to discuss the city's challenges. The talks, attended by TV Mohandas Pai and Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Maheshwar Rao, focused on road quality, potholes, waste disposal, traffic management, and major road projects like the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Peripheral Ring Road (PRR).

The meeting followed a public exchange between Shaw and Shivakumar on social media regarding infrastructure criticism. Shaw's concern was sparked by a foreign business visitor's shock at Bengaluru's infrastructure. To address these issues, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), led by Maheshwar Rao, will take responsibility for improving infrastructure in 50 wards. Shivakumar highlighted ongoing repair efforts, with Rs 1,100 crore sanctioned for road repairs and over 5,000 potholes fixed. Major infrastructure works are underway, including the CSB-K.R. Puram redevelopment and Elevated Corridors. The East Corporation will retain Rs 1,673 crore to enhance infrastructure across the same 50 wards.

The meeting aimed to agree on an action plan to fix key infrastructure bottlenecks in roads, drainage, traffic, and garbage in Bengaluru. With the BBMP taking responsibility for 50 wards and significant funds allocated, the city hopes to see tangible improvements in its infrastructure.
