Austria's Top Earners: Professors Lead at 84,500 €, Kitchen Assistants Lag at 25,500 €
In Austria, the best-paid job for 2025 is Professor, with an annual salary of 84,500 €. In Vienna, doctors top the list at 87,500 €. These figures come from a ranking that excludes management positions and professions with fewer than 200 salary entries.
Following professors and doctors, software architects also make the list of high earners. Meanwhile, kitchen assistants are at the opposite end, with an average salary of 25,500 € and a job satisfaction rate of 53%.
Looking at neighbouring countries, Germany and Switzerland have similar high-paying professions. These include medical doctors, flight controllers, veterinarians, IT professionals, and technical specialists. In Austria, well-paid jobs cluster around the 75,000 € mark, a figure suggested by a study to be the threshold for happiness.
While the best-paid jobs in Austria offer high salaries, it's important to note that separate rankings exist for men and women, as well as a city ranking with Linz at the top. Private bankers, despite their high salaries, have the highest satisfaction rate at 83%.
