Austria's Top Earners Also Among Happiest, Led by Private Bankers

Austria's highest earners are also among the happiest, with private bankers topping the satisfaction charts. Meanwhile, the best-paid jobs vary by gender and location, and the road to top positions for women is not without challenges.

In Austria, private bankers enjoy the highest job satisfaction, with 83% reporting contentment. This comes despite the ranking not including management roles or professions with fewer than 200 salary entries.

In Vienna, doctors earn the most, taking home 87,500 € annually. However, the best-paid job overall is Professor, with a salary of 84,500 €. Doctors and software architects follow closely with 84,600 € and 75,800 € respectively. These figures cluster around the suggested happiness threshold of 64,000 €.

Separate rankings show the best-paid jobs for women and men, with women in leadership roles like sales managers, production managers, and commercial managers earning high salaries. Medicine also offers good pay for women, with increasing representation. However, gender pay gaps persist, and reaching top positions remains challenging.

Kitchen helpers are at the opposite end of the spectrum, earning just 25,500 € annually.

Austria's best-paid jobs offer high satisfaction, with private bankers leading the way. However, the path to top earnings for women is not without obstacles. As the country's highest earners cluster around the happiness threshold, further research could explore the relationship between income and job satisfaction more deeply.
