AIIMS Bhopal Trains Experts in Eco-Pharmacovigilance for Safer Drugs and Environment
AIIMS Bhopal recently hosted the Eighth Advanced Level Pharmacovigilance Training, focusing on citizen safety and the emerging field of Eco-Pharmacovigilance (EPV) for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Department of Pharmacology, acting as a Regional Training Centre, led the event under the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI).
The primary goal of the training was to empower participants to ensure citizen safety and encourage active reporting of adverse drug reactions. Dr Rajnish Joshi, Dean (Academics), emphasized the importance of proper prescription-writing and thorough patient history-taking to prevent such reactions.
EPV, a relatively new focus, aims to identify and address significant ecological risks posed by pharmaceuticals promptly. Unlike traditional pharmacovigilance, EPV monitors drugs for environmental safety. Dr Niket Rai from LNMC Bhopal discussed the need and regulatory aspects of EPV at the training. EPV involves monitoring drug presence in ecosystems, assessing effects on non-target organisms, and preventing adverse environmental consequences.
The Eighth Advanced Level Pharmacovigilance Training, organized by the Department of Pharmacology in Bhopal, equipped participants with crucial skills to strengthen pharmacovigilance capabilities and promote Eco-Pharmacovigilance. Dr Joshi urged all participants to actively contribute to drug safety initiatives, ensuring both human and environmental well-being.
