A Frozen Chicken and a Black Bag: The 30-Year Friendship That Began on a Doorstep

A chance encounter on a cold December evening in 1975 led to a lifelong bond between Micah Parsons, his wife Dianne, and a homeless man named Ronnie Lockwood. What began as an act of kindness grew into a family connection that lasted over 30 years, ending only with Lockwood’s passing in 2020 at the age of 75.

Micah Parsons and Ronnie Lockwood had first met as boys in Sunday school. But their friendship was cut short when Lockwood, aged 11, was sent to a care home over 200 miles away. Decades later, on December 23, 1975, Lockwood reappeared at Parsons’ doorstep in Cardiff. He carried a frozen chicken and all his belongings in a black plastic bag.

The Lockwood Centre now stands as a tribute to a man who found family through kindness. Ronnie Lockwood’s bequest ensures the space will serve the community for years to come. His story remains a reminder of how small acts of generosity can shape lives in unexpected ways.
