40 New Affordable Homes for Sale Coming to Burien’s Miller’s Creek

Habitat for Humanity Seattle, King and Kittitas Counties (Habitat SKKC) will soon complete 40 new homes in Burien as part of its Miller’s Creek community. The project aims to provide permanently affordable homes for sale for families earning less than 80% of the area’s median income.

This spring’s milestone coincides with the charity’s 40th anniversary in 2026. Over four decades, the organisation has built or repaired hundreds of homes while advocating for policies that expand access to affordable homes for sale.

The new Burien homes for sale will feature mortgages capped at 35% of household income. To ensure long-term affordability, the properties are placed in a land trust, protecting them from market price surges for future generations.

Applications for these homes for sale, along with another major project, are now open at buyhabitat.org/burien. Since its founding, Habitat SKKC has constructed or renovated 458 homes for sale and completed 650 repairs, assisting over 2,600 families. Beyond construction, the group has helped pass 87 housing policies, securing $4.35 billion in public funding that has benefited more than 2.2 million people across Washington.

The charity’s work also delivers broader economic benefits. Studies suggest every £1 spent by Habitat SKKC generates up to £1.65 in additional community value, with total economic impact estimated at £3.70 per £1 invested.

To mark its 40th year, Habitat SKKC will host events throughout 2026. These include benefit concerts, dedications for two new neighbourhoods, and a panel discussion on the future of affordable homes for sale. A time capsule project will also collect residents’ memories, photos, and reflections, with submissions accepted via [email protected] under the subject line 'Habitat Time Capsule'.

The Miller’s Creek development adds to Habitat SKKC’s long record of addressing housing shortages. With mortgages tied to income levels and land trusts preserving affordability, the project offers stability for low- and middle-income families.

The anniversary celebrations will highlight the organisation’s impact while engaging the community in discussions about housing equity. Further details on events and applications remain available through Habitat SKKC’s website.
