Wedium Launches as Europe's Ethical TikTok Rival in July 2026

A new social media platform called Wedium is set to launch in July 2026, positioning itself as a European alternative to TikTok. Developed by Berlin-based advertising agency Glow, the platform promises stricter controls on content, user verification, and a non-addictive design. The company behind it, Wedium GmbH, was officially registered in January 2026 with a share capital of €25,000. The idea for Wedium began after Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2025, according to co-founder Johannes Meissner. He and his team—including his wife Nele Meissner, Andreas Hacker, Sebastian Wilke, and Lukas Backhaus—aimed to create a platform free from bot traffic and addictive algorithms. The company has already moved into beta testing, though the exact start date remains undisclosed.

Wedium enforces mandatory ID checks for all users to prevent fake accounts and hate speech. Minors can only join through verified parent accounts, with content tailored to their age group. Unlike other platforms, Wedium's algorithm avoids encouraging excessive use, allowing users to set their own time limits for video viewing. All of Wedium's servers are hosted in Germany by Hetzner, while DNS services are managed by Bunny.net in Slovenia. The founders emphasise data security and transparency as core principles, distinguishing the platform from competitors.

Wedium's official launch is planned for July 2026, following its beta phase. The platform's focus on user verification, age restrictions, and non-addictive features sets it apart from existing social media networks. If successful, it could offer a new model for digital interaction in Europe.
