Swiss-Belhotel expands across Indonesia with eight new hotels in 2026
Swiss-Belhotel International is set to expand its reach in Indonesia with a series of new hotel management contracts. The company, which already operates over 120 properties across the country, has signed agreements for multiple locations in early 2026. These moves form part of a broader strategy to strengthen its presence from western to eastern Indonesia.
The newly announced projects will cover cities such as Batam, Bali, Semarang, and Yogyakarta, among others. While the contracts were finalised in the first quarter of 2026, none of the hotels have yet begun operations, as setup and launch typically take several months to complete. Swiss-Belhotel International currently manages a global portfolio of over 165 properties across 20 countries. Its offerings span luxury, upscale, midscale, and economy segments, catering to leisure travellers, corporate clients, and the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. The company's loyalty programme, SBEC, provides members with discounts of 10% to 35% on rooms, dining, and other services at its 165+ hotels worldwide.
The latest expansion in Indonesia reflects the company's long-term commitment to the market. Gavin M. Faull, Chairman and President, has repeatedly highlighted Indonesia as a cornerstone of Swiss-Belhotel's global growth plans. Matthew Faull, Executive Director, added that this physical expansion is backed by robust digital infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations across new locations.
Ilkin Ilyaszade, Senior Vice President of Operations and Development for Indonesia, stressed the importance of disciplined execution. He noted that operational efficiency and long-term value creation remain top priorities as the company scales up. The goal is ambitious: Swiss-Belhotel aims to exceed 530 operating properties globally by 2033, with Indonesia playing a central role in this development pipeline.
The newly signed contracts include hotels in Batam, Bali, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Bengkulu, Tangerang, Lampung, and Central Kalimantan. Though the agreements were completed by the end of March 2026, the properties are not yet operational. Such projects usually require months of preparation before opening to guests, meaning visitors will likely see these hotels launch later in the year or beyond. The expansion reinforces Swiss-Belhotel's position as a major player in Indonesia's hospitality sector. With a growing portfolio and a focus on efficiency, the company is poised to increase its footprint across the archipelago. The long-term target of over 530 properties by 2033 will depend on sustained growth in Indonesia and other key markets.
