Success Universe Group posts HKD 410.4M loss after Macau casino closure

Success Universe Group has reported a net loss of HKD 410.4 million (USD 52.4 million) for the fiscal year 2025. This marks a sharp turnaround from the HKD 93.4 million (USD 11.9 million) profit recorded in 2024. The decline follows the closure of its Ponte 16 casino in Macau and a substantial impairment charge linked to the project. The company's financial struggles were largely driven by an impairment charge of HKD 340.7 million (USD 43.5 million) for Ponte 16. This figure accounts for roughly 83% of the Group's total annual loss. The casino's closure was officially announced on 29 November 2025, after SJM Resorts Limited chose to acquire L'Arc Casino instead.

Despite the losses, other business areas showed growth. Revenues from travel services, property investments, and financial assets rose by about 16% year-on-year, reaching HKD 59.7 million (USD 7.6 million). However, the Group also recorded a prorated loss of HKD 3.8 million (USD 485,000) from associates tied to Ponte 16. Looking ahead, Success Universe expects further financial strain due to the casino's shutdown. The company remains focused on maximising the value of its non-gaming assets within the Ponte 16 project.

The net loss for 2025 reverses the previous year's profit and highlights the impact of Ponte 16's closure. With SJM Resorts' decision to acquire a different casino, Success Universe now faces ongoing challenges. The Group's strategy will centre on recovering value from its remaining investments in the project.
