Russians Flock to Country Homes as Demand for Rural Properties Surges
Demand for country properties in Russia has risen sharply, with more people searching for homes outside cities. Data from Avito Real Estate shows a clear shift in interest, particularly in southern regions and near Moscow. Houses and dachas remain the most sought-after types of rural housing. The Krasnodar Region leads the trend, accounting for 9.3% of all country property searches. This makes it the most popular area for rural and suburban homes, especially in southern Russia. Moscow Oblast follows closely behind with 8.9% of total demand.
Houses dominate the market, representing 79% of searches, while dachas make up 14%. Rostov Oblast ranks third in interest, holding 4.3% of inquiries. Tatarstan, Leningrad Oblast, and Stavropol Region each attract 3% of potential buyers. Crimea has seen the biggest jump in popularity. Once in tenth place, it now sits seventh as more people look for properties there. Sergei Yeremkin, head of Avito Real Estate’s secondary and country property division, confirmed the surge in views and visits to rural listings.
The shift highlights growing interest in country living across Russia. Krasnodar Region and Moscow Oblast remain top choices, while Crimea’s rise suggests changing preferences. The data reflects a broader trend of people exploring housing options beyond urban centres.
