Russian bailiffs seize and auction woman's SUV to cover 130,000-ruble debt

Bailiffs in the Nizhny Novgorod Region have recovered unpaid debts by seizing and auctioning a woman's car. The vehicle, a Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin SUV, was sold after she failed to settle multiple outstanding obligations totalling around 130,000 rubles. The case marks a rare instance of forced vehicle sales in Russia last year.

The woman faced 13 separate enforcement proceedings, with debts accumulating to approximately 130,000 rubles. Officially unemployed and without a steady income, she struggled to meet her financial obligations. A court later added an extra 14,500 rubles as an enforcement fee.

At first, she tried to hide the SUV from authorities. However, bailiffs eventually tracked down the Mitsubishi Pajero Pinin and impounded it. The car was then sold at auction, with the proceeds covering the full debt, including the additional fee.

No other recorded cases of bailiffs forcing vehicle auctions to recover debts were reported across Russia in 2023. Once the funds were collected, all enforcement actions against the woman were officially closed.

The auction of the SUV fully cleared the woman's debts, ending the legal proceedings against her. The case stands as one of the few documented instances in 2023 where a car was seized and sold to settle financial obligations in Russia.
