Pervouralsk's trauma unit reopens after major renovation and private funding

The trauma unit at Pervouralsk City Hospital has reopened after a major renovation, funded in part by a local businessman. The upgraded facility, which began admitting patients on 1 April 2025, now handles up to 200 cases daily—far more than before its closure. Residents previously had to travel 10 kilometres to the Dinas microdistrict for treatment, but the new unit offers care right in the city centre. The project transformed a disused 350-square-metre kitchen block into a modern medical space. The area was fully rewired with new plumbing, heating, and electrical systems, and now includes an X-ray room. Fifteen dedicated rooms serve patients and staff, replacing the old second-floor unit that posed difficulties for those with leg fractures.

Local entrepreneur Igor Kovpak contributed over 20 million rubles of his own money to the construction. His involvement came after Health Minister Tatyana Savinova requested his support for the hospital's upgrade. The renovated department opened its doors in early April 2025, just in time for the seasonal rise in tick-related injuries. Within a year, the unit saw a 25% increase in admissions compared to the previous year. Regional health reports from March 2026 also noted a 15% higher patient volume than similar facilities in the Sverdlovsk region.

The trauma unit now operates efficiently in a more accessible location. Daily patient numbers have reached between 150 and 200, with additional demand during peak seasons. The renovation has reduced travel burdens for residents while improving local healthcare capacity.
