Oberjoch villagers clash with Familux Hotel over expansion plans

Plans to expand the Familux Hotel in Oberjoch have faced resistance from local residents. The proposed construction of two staff accommodation blocks, including 48 apartments near the federal highway, has become a key issue. Over 30 villagers have now put forward alternative suggestions to scale back the project.

The dispute centres on the size of the new buildings, which are planned for a greenfield site beside the busy federal road. Developers intend to include 48 staff apartments, with a handful of residential units in the attic earmarked for local people. This part of the scheme has drawn particular criticism.

Residents have called for one floor to be removed from the staff housing blocks. They have also proposed scrapping the local housing units entirely. Their concerns focus on the impact of the large structures in a village setting.

No official adjustments to the employee apartments or residential blocks have yet been announced. The hotel's expansion remains under review as discussions continue between developers and the community.

The Familux Hotel project now faces a decision on whether to modify its plans. Local opposition has put pressure on developers to reduce the scale of the accommodation blocks. Any changes would need to address concerns about building height and the inclusion of housing for villagers.
