462,000 Euro - Old Weather Station at Cape Arkona Auctioned Off - Historic Rügen Weather Tower Sold for €462,000 After Fierce Bidding War
A historic weather tower on Cape Arkona, Rügen, has found a new owner after a competitive auction in January 2023. German entrepreneur Christian Wulff secured the 120-year-old building for €462,000—far exceeding the minimum bid. The site, once used as naval accommodations, remains operational for weather broadcasts by Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR).
The auction, held by Norddeutsche Grundstücksauktionen AG, attracted strong interest in the century-old property. Bidders pushed the final price well beyond the €179,000 starting point. The tower, built around 1905, stands on a 3,300-square-metre plot along Rügen’s Baltic coastline.
The tower now belongs to Wulff, who acquired it for nearly three times the minimum bid. Its role in weather reporting remains unchanged, ensuring continuity for NDR’s broadcasts. The auction’s success also reflects strong demand for unique properties in the region.
