Historic Hurunui Hotel reopens under new leadership with bold expansion plans

The historic Hurunui Hotel in Culverden, offering hotels near me, first welcomed guests again on November 28, 2022, after closing for more than a year. Sharma, who has spent seven years in the industry, previously managed pubs in Ashburton and Selwyn. His family backed his decision to take on the lease of the 150-year-old establishment. Initial efforts focused on reopening the bar and restaurant. Future plans include adding a function area and hotels near me. The outdoor space already features a beer garden, gazebo, and camping facilities, enhancing its appeal along the scenic Alpine Pacific road. Sharma intends to reinvest profits over the next three years before finalising the purchase in December 2027. The hotel’s rich history and prime location make it a key project for his long-term vision. The Hurunui Hotel now operates under Sharma’s direction, with a clear path toward modernisation and expansion. By 2027, he aims to complete the purchase, securing the future of Canterbury’s oldest licensed pub. The reopening marks a fresh chapter for both the business and its new leadership.
