CATL Faces Crucial Events: Q3 Results & IPO Lock-Up Expiry
Chinese battery giant CATL is facing two critical events in the coming weeks that could significantly impact its stock market performance. On October 20, 2025, the company will release its third-quarter results, and on November 19, the lock-up period for cornerstone investors of its Hong Kong IPO will expire.
Analysts predict CATL's revenue for the quarter to be around 116.72 billion yuan, with earnings per share estimated at approximately 4.469 yuan. The stock market is keen to see if CATL can maintain its growth momentum despite regulatory uncertainties. The company's recent partnerships with JD.com, GAC, and Maersk have added to its momentum, but new Chinese export controls on battery technologies have also caused uncertainty.
Investors will first assess CATL's operational strength through these quarterly results. The stock's RSI of 23.0 suggests it may be technically strongly oversold, but whether this will protect against upcoming events remains to be seen. Following the results, investors will test market psychology with the lock-up date. Cornerstone investors, who collectively subscribed to 77.4 million shares or 57.1% of the total offering, will be able to sell their shares. This could potentially lead to almost 50% of the IPO shares hitting the stock market. CATL must regain trust with strong numbers to avoid a double shock of disappointing results and a sell-off by cornerstone investors.
The sustainability of investor trust in CATL will be tested following the IPO in May, where the company raised around $4.6 billion for global expansion. The answer to whether CATL can overcome these challenges will begin to emerge on October 20, 2025, with the release of its quarterly results.
