Berlin's Weiße Taube project brings 1,548 sustainable apartments to Lichtenberg by 2027
Berlin's Lichtenberg district is set to welcome one of its largest new housing projects, named Weiße Taube. Developer Gewobag is building 1,548 apartments along Landsberger Allee, with completion planned in stages by 2026/27. The first phase is already taking shape, featuring distinctive red balconies and nearly finished façades.
The development will cover around 63,500 square metres of residential space, including 1,316 apartments under rent and occupancy controls. These units fall under the WBS-100 and WBS-140 schemes, designed to mix households with different income levels. Around 1,100 of the homes will be barrier-free, offering sizes from one-room flats to five-bedroom apartments.
The project also includes 338 underground parking spaces, landscaped courtyards, and a public park. A central street will link four main building complexes, while commercial spaces and a daycare centre will serve the new neighbourhood.
Sustainability is a key focus. Rooftops will host 10,000 square metres of greenery and photovoltaic panels, targeting DGNB Gold certification. Gewobag is using modular construction to speed up building work and prioritising recyclable, energy-efficient materials.
The entire Weiße Taube development is expected to finish by the end of 2023, marking a major addition to Lichtenberg's housing stock. Once complete, it will provide a mix of controlled-rent homes, green spaces, and community facilities. The project's scale and sustainability measures aim to set a benchmark for future urban developments in Berlin.
