Berlin's old industrial site reborn as a sustainable housing community

A new residential quarter is taking shape on the former site of VEB Funkwerk Köpenick. The development blends affordable housing, social facilities, and sustainable design. Five seven-storey apartment blocks with 255 flats have already been finished.

The completed buildings meet the KfW 55 energy standard, ensuring high efficiency. Each block includes barrier-free access and underground parking for residents. Plans for the site go beyond housing, with a 212-bed care center and a 152-place daycare center set for future phases.

A boarding house with around 650 beds will also be added to diversify the area. The project aims for long-term sustainability by combining subsidised housing with social infrastructure. Nearby, the 'Marienufer' housing scheme and the 'Onni House' are also under construction, further enriching the neighbourhood.

The development transforms the old industrial site into a mixed-use community. Energy-efficient homes, care facilities, and childcare will serve both current and future residents. No further residential expansions or phases have been announced for the location.
