American Express Unveils Futuristic NYC Headquarters for 2031

American Express has revealed plans for a new global headquarters at 2 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. The company will stay at its current location, 200 Vesey Street, until the new building opens in 2031. The project is expected to bring thousands of jobs and billions in economic benefits to New York City and State.

The new headquarters will span nearly two million square feet, accommodating up to 10,000 employees. Designed by Foster + Partners and developed by Silverstein Properties, the building will feature flexible workspaces tailored for collaboration and well-being. American Express will own and occupy the site exclusively under a long-term lease from the Port Authority.

The project will include over an acre of outdoor terraces and gardens, offering green spaces and views of the Manhattan skyline. Advanced smart-building technology and fully-electric, energy-efficient systems will support its goal of achieving LEED certification.

Construction is expected to generate over 3,200 direct and indirect jobs, contributing an estimated $5.9 billion to New York City's news and $6.3 billion to the state's overall. The move follows recent expansions by other major firms, including Google's campus at 550 Madison Avenue and Fiserv's new headquarters at 3 World Trade Center.

The new building will reinforce American Express's presence in Lower Manhattan while boosting local employment and economic growth. With completion scheduled for 2031, the company plans to transition employees from its current headquarters to the modern, sustainable workspace.
